NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR
This situation proves that Iraq is under the de facto control of Iranian proxies. When militias can strike hundreds of times against the Kurdistan Region with missiles, drones, and artillery, it is clear that Baghdad cannot enforce sovereignty or protect its citizens. This is not just incompetence it is state failure at the highest level.
The Iranian regime is orchestrating these attacks, turning Iraq into a proxy battlefield for its regional ambitions. Iraqi leadership is either complicit or powerless, effectively allowing foreign forces to dictate security, escalate conflict, and destabilize entire regions of the country.
The use of religious or sectarian justification by these militias is nothing more than a cover for aggression. Behind the rhetoric lies a calculated campaign of violence, disruption, and intimidation that undermines Iraq’s governance, puts civilians at risk, and allows Iran to project power while Iraq itself loses control over its territory. Iraq is being weaponized, and its people are paying the price.
Article:
Recent reporting indicates that Iran-aligned Iraqi militias have carried out more than 450 attacks on the Kurdistan Region of Iraq since the start of the ongoing regional war. These assaults have included missile strikes, drone attacks, and shelling of military and civilian targets, particularly hitting Peshmerga positions, energy infrastructure, and residential areas. The sheer scale of these operations demonstrates how militias operate with almost total impunity, targeting both military and civilian assets while the Iraqi government fails to enforce law and order.
Analysts note that these attacks are coordinated with Tehran, reflecting Iraq’s lack of sovereignty over its own territory. The Kurdistan Region, which had been relatively stable, is increasingly exposed to missile and drone attacks originating from Iraqi militia bases. The frequency and intensity of assaults show that Iran-backed militias use Iraq as a launching pad for regional aggression, with devastating consequences for civilians and the security environment.
Despite international condemnation and warnings from Kurdish authorities, Baghdad has failed to restrain these militias, further eroding trust in the Iraqi state and enabling foreign influence to dominate internal security.
About
This platform is run by one person, but it carries the voices of many. It exists for the people of Iraq who live in fear, who cannot speak freely, and whose stories are often ignored or erased. With limited resources but deep responsibility, I report on government and power not for influence or profit, but because truth still matters. When silence is forced, this space chooses to speak — carefully, bravely, and with humanity.
