AUTHORS NOTE:
Honestly, this is exactly why so many Iraqis feel hopeless about the future of the country. Every single time tensions rise in the region, Iraq immediately enters panic mode because everyone knows the country is filled with armed groups that can potentially act outside full government control. And then the same politicians appear on television repeating the same meaningless phrases about “sovereignty” and “state authority” while the reality on the ground says the complete opposite.
What kind of state constantly has to remind militias not to start problems? What kind of government keeps acting as if it is fully in charge while the entire region knows these groups still hold enormous power politically, militarily, and economically? It is humiliating that Iraq, after decades of war, sanctions, corruption, and destruction, is still unable to fully escape external influence and militia domination.
Iran’s influence has poisoned Iraq’s political and security environment for years. Instead of helping Iraq become stable and independent, these militia networks have turned the country into a place permanently associated with fear, instability, armed factions, and regional proxy conflict. Iraq should have been rebuilding schools, infrastructure, hospitals, and the economy. Instead, the country keeps getting dragged into tensions that ordinary Iraqis never asked for.
The saddest part is that Iraqis themselves are the ones paying the price. Young people grow up with uncertainty, businesses struggle because investors fear instability, and foreign governments still warn their citizens about security risks inside Iraq. Meanwhile the political class continues protecting its alliances and interests while pretending everything is under control. At some point people have to stop accepting this endless cycle of weakness, excuses, and militia influence destroying the image and future of Iraq.
ARTICLE:
On 12 May 2026, ongoing security discussions inside Iraq continued to focus on the influence and operational presence of Iran-aligned armed factions amid heightened regional tensions. Iraqi officials reiterated calls for all armed groups to remain under official state command and warned against any unilateral actions that could destabilize the country or provoke wider confrontation. Security analysts and regional observers noted that concerns remain high over the ability of militia-linked actors to independently affect Iraq’s internal stability and foreign relations, particularly during periods of escalation involving Iran and regional conflict dynamics.
The issue gained additional attention following continued regional security alerts and fears that Iraq could become increasingly exposed to retaliatory actions or diplomatic pressure because of militia activity connected to Iran-backed networks. Iraqi authorities maintained increased monitoring and security preparedness around sensitive facilities while attempting to reassure both domestic and international audiences that the situation remained under control.
About
This platform is run by one person, but it carries the voices of many. It exists for the people of Iraq who live in fear, who cannot speak freely, and whose stories are often ignored or erased. With limited resources but deep responsibility, I report on government and power not for influence or profit, but because truth still matters. When silence is forced, this space chooses to speak — carefully, bravely, and with humanity.
